Dryland avulsion sequences: Insights from data-model comparison of a terminal dryland river system

چکیده

An advection–diffusion model of fluvial processes was used to analyze the stratigraphic expression avulsions in terminal river systems and understand their control on basin-fill architecture. The initial boundary conditions runs (i.e., catchment area, smoothed topographic surface, grain-size distribution sediment supply rates) were extracted from modern Rio Colorado dryland system Altiplano Basin (Bolivia). Water-discharge sediment-load values derived global regression curves BQART equation, respectively. To evaluate robustness simulations, tested under increasing scenarios ranging 0.003 m3/s 0.095 m3/s. Data-model comparison provided insights into role geomorphological evolution systems. observed stacking sediments, as captured by geospatial geochronological data Colorado, is consistent with high scenarios, which start a single-thread channel that time radially expands over floodplain successive account alluvial-ridge aggradation channel-floor elevation above surrounding floodplain. output shows laterally extensive, convex-upwards lobate topography agreement lateral longitudinal geomorphology upper lower coastal plain Colorado. simulated inter-avulsion period, period between two full (or stabilized) model, varies 0.18 1.2 kyr OSL-age determination periods up 1.28 ± 0.34 kyr.

A Bayesian model decision support system: dryland salinity management application

Addressing environmental management problems at catchment scales requires an integrated modelling approach, in which key bio-physical and socio-economic drivers, processes and impacts are all considered. Development of Decision Support Systems (DSSs) for environmental management is rapidly progressing. This paper describes the integration of physical, ecological, and socio-economic components i...

Assessing the robustness of spatial pattern sequences in a dryland vegetation model.

A particular sequence of patterns, 'gaps→labyrinth→spots', occurs with decreasing precipitation in previously reported numerical simulations of partial differential equation dryland vegetation models. These observations have led to the suggestion that this sequence of patterns can serve as an early indicator of desertification in some ecosystems. Because parameter values in the vegetation model...
